Asadong Baboy Recipe

Asadong baboy or pork asado is a kind of pork stew where small slices of pork are cooked with beef broth, brown sugar, and soy sauce. Use anisado wine to add a taste of star anise. This is a very easy and simple course to do.

It is suggested to use for this recipe small pork slices with fat. The small chopped will allow it to cook and makes it soft fastly while the fat will help to make the pork moist. You should request on where you will buy your meat to cut the pork thinly.


You can also use cornstarch to expand the sauce of this course. Begin adding half amount of cornstarch as noted on the ingredients below. You can combine the remaining cornstarch if the sauce still needed to be thickened more.

Asadong baboy can be made on normal days. Serve it with rice was the perfect match of it. And you can also serve it with a hardboiled egg if you wanted.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ lb. pork thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 small yellow onion minced
  • 5 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 6 tablespoons anisado wine
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 ¾ cups beef broth
  • 3 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch diluted in 2 tablespoons water
  • Salt and ground black pepper for the flavor

Instructions:

  1. Heat oil in a wok or pan.
  2. Stir fry onion and garlic
  3. Combine pork. Put the beef broth, anisado wine, and soy sauce in the pot. Allow it to boil. Close and proceed on cooking it on the low medium heat for around 30-35 minutes or until you notice that the pork are tender and soft already. You can also use 2 pieces of star anise if you can’t use anisado wine.
  4. Combine brown sugar and stir it.
  5. Sprinkle the ground black pepper and salt.
  6. Combine water and cornstarch and put the mixture on the pot. Stir it well. Proceed on cooking it until you get what you wanted.
  7. Put it on a serving plate and serve it
  8. You can now enjoy eating this course!
